Vodafone links phone contacts to social media

Vodafone has unveiled a range of internet services which centre around connecting a phone’s address book with social media.

The Vodafone 360 suite of services includes displaying the address book, called Vodafone People, in a 3D format featuring contacts’ latest Facebook status updates and location.

Additional services include automatic location tagging of pictures taken with the phone and a mapping service to locate nearby friends and recommended places.

A dedicated website has been developed to allow subscribers to manage their address book.

Vodafone 360 is being embedded in two Samsung and four Nokia handsets following its eight-territory launch later this year, with slimmed-down versions of the service available to download as an app for more than 100 handsets including the iPhone. Subscribers to rival networks will also be able to use parts of the Vodafone 360 service.

Vodafone CEO Vittorio Colao said: “It’s about empowering our customers and offering a suite of services which will improve their lives.”
