Mirror is latest publisher to offer iPhone apps

Trinity Mirror is joining The Guardian and FT in launching iPhone apps, with apps for Mirrorfootball.co.uk and 3am.co.uk, plus the Daily Mirror and Daily Record. 

The iPhone apps for Mirrorfootball.co.uk and 3am.co.uk will be paid-for, although pricing has not yet been disclosed. The apps for the Daily Mirror and Daily Record will be free. No launch date for the apps has been released. 

The apps, which will carry advertising, aim to extend the reach of the traditional Trinity Mirror newspaper brands, as well as the scope of the newly launched standalone websites Mirrorfootball and 3am. 

Rick Gleave, Trinity Mirror head of interactive and mobile, said: “There are more than one million iPhones in use in the UK and now that the handset is available across a number of network operators, the number of subscribers will increase, so this is the perfect time for Trinity Mirror’s portfolio of apps to hit the market.” 

Earlier this week, The Guardian launched its first iPhone application, costing £2.39, providing readers with access to news stories and photo galleries. 

The Daily Telegraph offers a free iPhone app, while the FT provides a free app but readers pay for content after accessing 10 articles.
