Hulu and SeeSaw rival secures Five content

Five has given TV.com its first major European long-form content deal, making more than 250 hours of full-length programmes available to the CBS Interactive-owned, video-on-demand site.

As part of the deal, TV.com will show a host of Five’s popular series, including ‘Neighbours’, ‘Home and Away’ and ‘The Gadget Show’.

Under the terms of the deal, programmes available on Five’s catch-up TV service, Demand Five, will be available at TV.com shortly after broadcast.

The content, which will be free of charge to UK users, will be supported by in video advertising, to be sold by Five, and display advertising, to be sold by CBS Interactive.

Jonathan Lewis, Five’s head of digital media, said: “Our partnership with TV.com is further example of Five’s strategy to expand and grow the reach of its content beyond the small screen, to premium secure digital platforms.”

CBS acquired TV.com from CNET in 2007 in a bid to get ahead in the online video market in the US, which is currently dominated by Hulu, a joint venture by Disney, News Corp, NBC Universal and Providence Equity Partners.
