BFI partners with Blinkbox to broadcast classic British films online
Online film and TV site Blinkbox has signed a distribution deal with the British Film Institute to broadcast its catalogue of classic films online.
Blinkbox will broadcast 37 full-length and 24 short British films that feature home-grown talent such as Daniel Craig and by directors such as Derek Jarman.
The films will be entirely funded by advertising, while there will also be a BFI ‘Feature Film a Month’ for users to purchase or rent.
Peter Fydler, head of business to business sales at BFI, said: “We aim to deliver as broad a choice of film as possible to everyone in the UK by widening access to the collections in the BFI National Archive. This relationship with Blinkbox helps us reach a much younger audience and provides the ability for people to interact with the films creatively.”
The BFI recently hired its first head of digital as part of a major revamp of its online activity
