Guardian adds Willison to stable

Guardian News and Media (GNM) has appointed Simon Willison as a software architect, it has announced.

Mr Willison, a former Yahoo! and Lawrence Journal World developer, will join the company in October.

He will work with GNM's existing data sources and third parties to prepare content.

The Guardian said this will enable developers outside of the company to create applications using Guardian content.

GNM's technology director Mike Bracken said: "Simon has a tremendous reputation in the development industry.

"His skills and outstanding track record will further enhance our ability to offer innovative solutions to the developer and publisher communities."

Recently the group also announced the appointments and promotions of several people to its senior editorial team - Paul Johnson, Ian Katz and Katharine Viner.

Mr Johnson, the Guardian's deputy editor, has been appointed as the deputy editor of GNM.
